How to Use the HubSpot Campaigns Tool to Measure Performance

Sacha Holmes | 7 February 2014

Inbound marketing campaigns generally comprise a number of different assets and channels and unless we have a way of connecting the dots back to the campaign it can be tricky to keep track of our results. Enter HubSpot Campaigns!

This handy new functionality in HubSpot Marketing offering allows us to track and analyse overall campaign performance in real-time. This is fantastic as we are able to see at a glance what is working well and also identify areas that are perhaps under performing. It allows us to be proactive within the campaign period, going to work on those lagging areas and make adjustments to boost results.

Without further ado, let’s get into how to set up and use Campaigns. You’ll need to be a HubSpot customer and you’ll need to log in to access the following steps.

Setting Up HubSpot Campaigns to Track Results

Campaigns can be found under the Marketing drop down menu in HubSpot, first you will need to click on Planning and Strategy then Campaigns - this will take you to a campaigns listing page. In our example you can see that HubSpot has pulled in our various campaigns already. There are a couple of things you can do on this page, but we’re going to jump right in and create a new campaign by clicking on the button to the right of the listings.

A pop up box appears asking you to give your campaign a name.

Once you’ve completed the campaign name, you’ll be taken to the campaign overview page. Considering this is a brand new campaign with no associated assets or activity to report on it’s going to look like this:

This is going to be your primary place for checking in on campaign performance. Let’s run through some of what you’ll find here.

Linking Campaign Assets

As you start building out your campaign, you can begin linking the campaign assets back to the campaign you have created, here is an example of what the dashboard for a live campaign looks like.

HubSpot Campaigns have made it even simpler to build, manage and report on your campaigns, irrespective of the channels that you are using.
